PLAINVIEW, Tex. – Two Ranger goals within the first 25 minutes of play led to a 3-2 win for Northwestern as they downed Wayland Baptist on the road on Wednesday afternoon.
Vanessa Lopez scored her first goal of the season at the 14 minute mark as Brianne Brown assisted. Heather Davis gave the Rangers a 2-0 advantage with an unassisted goal, her first of the season, at the 24:13 mark.
Wayland Baptist connected on a goal with under four minutes to go in the half.
Brown struck with her sixth goal of the year in the 76th minute, using an assist from Nicolle Davis to give NWOSU a 3-1 lead. Wayland Baptist’s final goal came during the 80th minute off a direct kick. Northwestern held onto the lead in the remaining 10 minutes, despite three WBU shots.
Kelsey Archer finished with five saves, as WBU took 18 shots, seven being on goal.
The Rangers shot 15 times, seven in the first half, as WBU took 18 shots, 10 in the last half.
Northwestern (5-7, 2-3) meets Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City for a 2 p.m. game on Friday, Oct. 15.
