COLEMAN, Okla. – Trey Young, Tanner Braden and Cali Griffin took first place finishes, while the men’s team was awarded third place and the women finished in 10th at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Rodeo in Coleman over the weekend.
Northwestern’s men’s team finished with 440 points, 75 shy of Oklahoma Panhandle State University, who won the event.
Kyle Irwin finished third in the men’s all-around with 140 points, while Brett Christensen had 120 points and took fourth in the all-around.
Irwin was fifth in steer wrestling with a 9.3 and took home fourth place in team roping along with Cole Wilson, who scored a 19.7. Christensen was seventh in tie down roping and finished fifth in team roping.
Northwestern’s most populated event was team roping, as four cowboys placed in addition to Irwin, Wilson and Christensen. Tanner Braden, along with Tyler Bryant of Southeastern Oklahoma State, won the event with a 13.2. Reagan Ward and Andrew Ward of Western Oklahoma State College took third place, also with a time of 13.2. Collin Domer and Travis Cowan finished sixth and seventh, respectively, both competing as a header.
Trey Douglas won the tie down roping event with an 18.3, while Trenton Johnson finished in sixth place with a 21.8.
The women’s rodeo team tied for 10th place, while Cali Griffin was the top cowgirl in breakaway roping with a 6.6. Jade Inlow tied for ninth in goat tying, recording a 20.7.
Currently, Northwestern’s men’s team is third in the Central Plains Region standings with 955 points. They are 585 points back of Panhandle State, who is leading the region.
Northwestern’s next rodeo will be its own, when they host the Ranger Rodeo on November 4-6 at the Woods County Fairgrounds.
