ALVA, Okla. – The Lady Ranger basketball team came away from Percefull Fieldhouse with a 61-46 Thursday night victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, who remains winless in Sooner Athletic Conference action.
Northwestern scored the first six points of the game, before USAO turned things around on the Lady Rangers and lead by six points of their own, up 19-13, with 5:05 in the first half. An 11-2 Northwestern run closed out the half, giving NWOSU a 24-21 lead at intermission.
Both teams struggled shooting in the first half, with each hitting 25 percent. Turnovers were prevalent in the opening half, with 28 combined miscues.
The Lady Rangers held the lead the entire second half and led by as much as 21 points.
Northwestern upped its shooting in the second half to 42 percent to shoot 35 percent on the night. The Lady Rangers were 18-of-25 from the free throw line and hit 5-of-20 from three.
Hannah Guthrie scored nine points to lead Northwestern and was followed by Keindra Scott’s eight points. Autumn Klugh and Claudia Vazquez had seven points each. Scott led the Lady Rangers with nine rebounds.
Northwestern (9-6, 3-4) finishes out the week at Southern Nazarene on Saturday for a 6 p.m. game.
