CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Ranger basketball team suffered a 20-point, 77-57, loss at the Claremore Expo Center as Rogers State University received its first Sooner Athletic Conference win of the season on Monday night.
After a slow first half, scoring only 18 points, Northwestern found itself down 35-18 at the break. Rogers State canned all 18 of its free throws in the opening stanza to aid in the 17 point Hillcat halftime lead.
The Rangers picked up the pace, hitting 44 percent in the second half compared to shooting 23 percent in the first half, but 29 Northwestern fouls led way to 16 more made free throws from the Hillcats.
Northwestern finished the night shooting 34 percent and hit 4-of-19 from three. Brandon Dixon scored 14 points to top the Rangers’ scorers, while Daryl Glover followed with 10 points. Thiago Guilherme and Dixon led the way with six rebounds.
Rogers State was led by Sylvester Spicer’s 24 points, including a perfect 15-of-15 from the charity stripe. The Hillcats were 44 percent on the night from the field and sunk 34 free throws.
The Rangers (7-6, 2-4) tangle with USAO on Thursday, Jan. 7 at Percefull Fieldhouse for an 8 p.m. game.
