ALVA – The Lady Rangers fell in a 56-47 game at Percefull Fieldhouse on Monday night, as Northwestern lost to the No. 16 ranked Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm.
Northwestern was down 10 points with 12:05 left in the first half, but Annalena Farias outscored the Crimson Storm single-handedly, 14-5, over the next eight minutes to pull within a point.
The Lady Rangers knotted the game up at 26-26 at the midway point, before Southern Nazarene went on a 14-6 run to open the second half. SNU held at least a six-point lead for the remainder of the half for the 56-47 win.
Farias finished with 18 points, 16 of those coming in the first half. She was 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Claudia Vazquez kicked in 10 points and Mandy Norman scored nine.
The Lady Rangers shot 30 percent and struggled from the perimeter, hitting 2-of-13 from beyond the arc. Northwestern did hit 11-of-17 from the free throw line and outrebounded SNU 47-45.
Southern Nazarene collectively shot 30 percent on the night and hit seven three-pointers. Oumoul Thiam led the Crimson Storm with 16 points.
Northwestern (7-4, 3-3) plays its third game in six days, hosting Oklahoma City University in Percefull Fieldhouse in a 6 p.m. matchup.
