ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern warded off Rogers State University for a 69-62 win against the Hillcats in hardwood action in Percefull Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Rangers, who held their biggest lead of 16 points with 13:36 into the first half, didn’t get away easy. Rogers State scored 14 unanswered points to cut the lead to just two at the 10-minute mark.
Northwestern countered with a 13-3 run to pull ahead by 12, but RSU again cut the lead, this time to just a point with 3:23 left.
The Rangers took care of RSU down the stretch, using nine unanswered points of their own to go up by 10 points with 49 seconds left.
Northwestern shot 37 percent and hit 8-of-22 from beyond the arc. They shot well from the free throw line, canning 19-of-23.
Marshall Bell hit a season-high of 31 points, while pouring in six three-pointers and was 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Orren Tims found 19 points, while making a pair of treys and hitting 5-of-6 from three.
Rogers State’s John Boyd led the Hillcats with 18 points, while as a team they shot 34 percent.
Northwestern (15-7, 9-5) will be on the road against Oklahoma City University on Thursday, Feb. 3 in Oklahoma City. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
