ALVA, Okla. – The fifth ranked Lady Bison got on top of the Lady Rangers early, warding a 75-51 Northwestern loss at Percefull Fieldhouse on Thursday night. The loss was the eight straight for the 7-11 Lady Rangers, but D’Shanna Butler highlighted the night as she became the Lady Rangers 11th member of the 1,000 Point Club.
After nearly four minutes of play, Butler got the Lady Rangers on the board with their first bucket of the game and her 1,000th point of her career. Butler joined an elite class as the 11th member since the program began in 1972.
OBU jumped quickly to a 24-4 lead with 11:08 in the first half and extended that advantage to 43-15 at the half. The Lady Bison lit it up for 63 percent in the first half and held NWOSU to just 24 percent and only one three-pointer.
The Lady Rangers improved their shooting in the second half to 35 percent and hit three treys. OBU cooled off, somewhat, to shot 52.5 percent on the night.
Butler finished with a team-high of 15 points, upping her four-year career total to 1,013 points. She also led NWOSU in rebounds with five and had three steals during her legendary night. Claudia Vazquez tipped in 13 points as Kaylee Byrd kicked in an individual season-high seven points.
Next up for the Northwestern women (7-11, 2-10) will be a trip to Shawnee to take on St. Gregory’s on Saturday at 6 p.m.
