PLAINVIEW, Tex. – Northwestern’s winning streak of five games was snapped on Saturday night, as Wayland Baptist downed the Rangers 62-54 in Plainview. The loss dropped the Rangers, who were tied with Oklahoma Christian for third place in the Sooner Athletic Conference, to fourth place with a 7-4 record.
After being down 34-25 at the half, Northwestern’s shooting dipped from 40 percent in the first half to 29 percent in the second period, but the Rangers outscored WBU in the second half by one point.
Northwestern finished the game shooting 34 percent from the field. They hit 7of-21 three’s and were 7-of-11 from the free throw line.
Termaine Snyder scored a game high and had a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. He was the lone Ranger in double figures, as Catrell Currie scored nine and Brandon Brown had six.
Both teams coughed up the ball 20 times and the Rangers were out rebounded, 42 to 36. Wayland Baptist had 11 steals, as Northwestern came up with four.
Wayland Baptist hit 40 percent of its shots and had four players with 10 points or more. Teddy Chambers led the Pioneers with 13 points.
The Rangers (12-7, 7-4) host Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday, Jan. 29. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
