CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University women picked up its third Sooner Athletic Conference win after edging out the University of Science of Arts, 53-52, on Saturday evening.
The Lady Rangers led for most of the game and during the first 14 minutes of the second half. The game experienced five ties over the final 6:37 to go.
Down 52-50 with just under two minutes to go, the Lady Rangers got a field goal by Claudia Vazquez to knot the game at 52-52 at the 1:36 mark. After a USAO foul, Annalena Farias added a free throw to ice the game with 1:04 to go, while the Drovers missed a last chance three-pointer with 37 seconds left and failed on a jump shot with seven seconds left.
Northwestern shot 34 percent from the field, while holding the Lady Drovers to 32 percent. Both teams hit five three-pointers. NWOSU was able to convert 10-of-14 free throws.
Mandy Norman sunk three of the five Lady Ranger treys, as she led Northwestern with 11 points. Renee Golliday added 10 points and eight rebounds. Vazquez scored eight points and had three blocked shots.
USAO was paced by Aita Gueye’s 16 points.
The Ranger women (7-3, 3-2) host No. 16 Southern Nazarene at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3 at Percefull Fieldhouse.
